I Write Like...
16 Jan 2011 07:57 pmI was snooping around LiveJournal and came across this tool. I plugged in bits and pieces from various points in my illustrious career and got back results like: David Foster Wallace, Stephen King, Dan Brown, and Cory Doctorow. There were a number of repeated answers. David Foster Wallace was the most common.
So I decided to feed the tool a larger sample to see what it would make of my latest work. My experience with collecting and analyzing data suggests that the larger the pool the more reliable the results.
The first nine scenes in Crimes yielded these responses in order: J. D. Salinger, Ian Fleming, William Gibson, J. D. Salinger, J. D. Salinger, Arthur Clarke, J. D. Salinger, Cory Doctorow, Chuck Palahniuk.
The next nine: Chuck Palahniuk, William Gibson, William Gibson, Chuck Palahniuk, Cory Doctorow, William Gibson, J. D. Salinger, Chuck Palahniuk, Chuck Palahniuk.
And the final three: Chuck Palahniuk, J. D. Salinger, Chuck Palahniuk.
That's a three act, one-hundred and twenty-thousand word novel fed to the thing. So, I suppose I can infer that my work currently reads a little like Catcher in the Rye meets Fight Club with a dash of Neuromancer splashed on for flavor.
Or if you prefer, I write like the illegitimate daughter of:

Good to know, right?
